With the 2.5.3 firmware release of the wePresent software, Barco brings increased security and additional features to its wePresent collaboration portfolio.
wePresent is a professional wireless collaboration solution targeted to teaching and training applications. The wePresent solution allows on-site users to share their screen for interactive and collaborative presentations. The wePresent family consist of 3 main products of which the wePresent WiPG-1600W was launched in 2013 with an approximate active install base of almost 20.000 units.
Security is a continuous journey
“Earlier this year KoreLogic, a U.S. cyber security company, reached out to Barco with findings on some vulnerability issues related to wePresent WiPG-1600W units,” explains Jan van Houtte, Director Learning Experience.
Barco has a Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) that continuously monitors privacy and security risks on our portfolio and drives security improvements. Like any other Barco solution, the wePresent products are designed with security, privacy and confidentiality in mind, and with every quarterly software release new features and fixes are added to the product range. The latest November wePresent firmware update addresses the vulnerabilities raised by KoreLogic.
“There were no indications of any compromised devices in the field, but our R&D teams worked closely together with the company on an increased security solution. By upgrading to our 2.5.3 software release, customers can further harden their devices and continue enjoying the best experience and security. We recommend all wePresent customers to upgrade to this latest version,”
Updating WiPG1600W units can be done through the ‘auto-update’ function in the product. For units that are not connected to the internet, updates can be downloaded and installed here.
